Class Information for 3A

Mr. C.L. Sabatini
Background:
My name is Charles L. Sabatini. This is my seventh year of teaching 3-A at St. Peter's. I have taught other class levels, from kindergarten to twelfth grades, over the last 25 years. I earned my BA from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and my Master's at Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge. I speak some Spanish. In my classes, I emphasize mathematics, spelling and reading to offer my students a good grounding in the basics. At St. Peter's, I also emphasize religion.
I welcome the 3-A class to an enjoyable and productive school year!
Communication with Parents:
Communication with parents starts at the beginning of the school year during open house in the first month of school, when I discuss my expectations for students and parents regarding academics and discipline. During the school year, I telephone parents after discussing at first with the students any problems regarding discipline and behavior, including listening and performing school work. In addition, I meet with each parent after the first report card to discuss how their child is doing and to discuss any suggestions for improving grades or discipline. I ask for additional meetings with parents as necessary.
Homework Requirements and Time:
I emphasize homework as an important practice in their subjects and as a way to build responsibility and confidence. I usually require an hour or more of homework each day. I suggest that homeowork be done in a quiet environment, and that homework be a higher priority than watching television.
Testing Schedules:
* Weekly spelling test on each Friday
* Tests in other subjects following unit completion
* Extra credit in most subjects
Grading Policies:
I follow the grading policies per the Archdiocese of San Francisco. In case of illness or authorized absences, I give make-up tests. Grades include both tests and homework. I accentuate the student's efforts, discipline, and homework in the overall grading.
Report Cards/ Progress Reports:
The school year's progress is reported by four, evenly spaced report cards. Each report card covers both the student's academic achievement and behavioral qualities. Insufficient achievement in academics or behavior leads to a scheduled progress report meeting with the student's parent(s).
Discipline/ Student Expectations:
I follow the Archdiocese of San Francisco guidelines for the conduct and effort/ work habits categories as listed in the official report cards. At the beginning of the year and throughout the year, I explain all academic and behavioral expectations so that the students understand how they should behave. I speak with the student first regarding these categories as problems arise. A student/ parent meeting follows unsatisfactory resolution to conduct or effort deficiencies. I constantly reward and encourage the good conduct and effort of each student.
Contact Information and Contact Times:
Students and parents can contact me at clsaba@yahoo.com by school telephone during school hours, and by my home telephone during other times.
I look forward to a successful year for the children in class 3-A!
