| Welcome
to the 7th Grade

Background:
My
name is Mrs. Ortenzo, and I teach in 7-B. I've been
at St. Peter's for many years, teaching grades 5-8.
Most of my experience, though, is at my favorite grade
level: 7 th . I speak Italian and some Spanish. I
am very happy to have the opportunity to work with
you in educating your children.
Class:
This
year I will teach the following subjects:
To
7-B students: Religion, Science, and Spelling.
To
7-A and 7-B: Math, Social Studies
(Mr. Waters will teach Literature and English for classes
7-A and 7-B)
*See
class schedule for details
Communication:
If
you have any questions or concerns throughout the
year, please do not hesitate to contact me. Unless
it is an emergency, I would appreciate a note or phone
call requesting a meeting time so that I will be able
to give you and your child my undivided attention.
Homework:
Homework
builds study skills, develops responsibility and is
an essential part of our academic program. Every day
there are at least one and one half hours of homework
assigned. Usually no homework is assigned over the
weekend, unless there is a project or work that needs
to be finished.
*
Please see Homework Hints.
Test:
We
will have weekly spelling tests on Fridays. Tests
in other subjects will vary. I accept extra credit
in most subjects.
Discipline:
When
problems arise, I generally speak with the student
first. I then take the necessary steps to resolve
the issue together with the student. If a resolution
cannot be found or the problem persists, I will contact
you to discuss the issue and together find a solution.
Statement
to Parents:
Seventh
grade year is very important. It is the first opportunity
to prepare for high school. High schools look at report
card as well as IOWA test scores form this year. Then combine
this information along with the first semester of
eighth grade and the actual application when making
acceptance decisions. Therefore, seventh grade overall
performance is critical. Thank you for sharing your
children with me. I look forward to partnering with
you in your child's education.
