| The 7th grade year is extremely important. It is a year of opportunity to prepare for high school. High Schools look at report cards as well as the IOWA test Scores for the 7th and 8th grades. Then they combine this information with the actual application, teachers recommendations and the results of the high school entrance tests when making acceptance decision. Therefore, your child's overall performance is critical.
Expectations for Parents/Guardians:
I recognize that parents/guardians are the primary educators of their children. Your role in this program continues to be of great importance. You are encourage to support your child in his/her efforts to be successful in this challenging environment
I encourage you to take an active interest in your child's work; ask them about their progress and offer your assistance if you are comfortable with the subject mater.
Encourage your child to seek help before they become overwhelmed. You can assist your child with time management and organizational skills so that your child will have sufficient time to complete their assignments, by doing the following:
Ask questions about what the class is studying.
Ask to see schoolwork.
Ask to see their progress grades and reports on a regular basis.
Praise effort and improvement - no matter how small it may seem to you.
Encourage study habits by agreeing on a time for homework everyday. If your child has no homework on a particular day, ask him or her to use the time to review or read for pleasure. Arrange a quiet place for study. Try to provide a large clear work surface, a comfortable chair and good lighting. Arrange a storage space for books and assignments, which they need to hold on to for the entire year, and for high school. Show respect for study by not watching television or talking with friends while your child is studying.
Final note:
I strive to communicate the learning goals and objectives with all members of our community: students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, Office of Catholic schools and high schools.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children. I look forward to partnering with you in your child's education. |
